It’s not exactly a million years ago that automatic gearboxes offered poorer performance and economy than manual gearboxes, and came as standard with just three gears. But now, automatic gearboxes are so good they can change quicker than any driver and, with the proliferation of eight-speed auto ‘boxes, offer improved economy and performance too. The next logical step is even more ratios in an auto ‘box, and Land Rover has already revealed they’ll be fitting the Evoque with a 9-speed ZF ‘box from 2014, and the new Jeep Grand Cherokee gets a nine-speed auto ‘box too.
It seems that, despite expectations, Ferrari will not debut the new Enzo (F70) at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. The expectation has been for some time that the new Ferrari Enzo (F70) would debut at this year’s 2012 Paris Motor Show. But now we don’t think it is.
The new SEAT Leon Ecomotive (pictured) is the most frugal Leon ever
The new SEAT Leon Ecomotive – which debuted at Frankfurt last month – has now gone on sale in the UK and boasts of being the most efficient Leon ever. Available in 3-door SC, five-door and Touring versions, the Leon Ecomotive manages to improve economy and emissions over the already frugal regular 1.6 litre TDI by cutting emissions to 87g/km, equal to 85.6mpg. Part of the improved economy and emissions is down to weight saving – SEAT are claiming the new Leon Ecomotive weighs 90kg less – low resistance tyres and improvements in aerodynamics of ten per cent.
